A Call to Service "We need your service, right now, at this moment - our moment - in history.” President Barack Obama Our nation has been called into action. A new era of responsibility in which every American serves is upon us. Thousands have answered the call to service but many are not sure how. West Hartford Kiwanis is sponsoring a conversation with Mayor Slifka, Senator Harris and other elected officials outlining needs and opportunities in our neighborhoods. Our hope is that we will come together to help build a stronger community. There are many that need your help. Eugene Market
Book Drive With the goal of helping to put books in the hands of children and families in need, the West Hartford Kiwanis Club sponsored their first a book drive. The books were donated to West Hartford’s Charter Oak Academy of Global Studies for their summer reading program. Located at 425 Oakwood Avenue, Charter Oak Academy is an intra-district magnet school. Its global studies curriculum offers students a unique opportunity to understand and appreciate world cultures. The more than 350 students come from a variety of diverse cultures and backgrounds. We plan on making this an annual event. Natalie Mendes
